On Thursday, April 30, 2009, the Hornets varsity girls’ tennis team hosted Corunna in a match held indoors at the Michigan State University indoor facility. “Randy (Bowles, Williamston Principal and Athletic Director) and Keith (Eldred, the Athletic Director in charge of scheduling), looked at the projected weather report on Wednesday and determined that if we were going to get our CAAC league match in they would have to schedule it indoors,” explained Steve Stanley, varsity tennis coach. “They were both great in supporting our girls and finding the money to host our match,” he said. “It would have been a real problem trying to find a match date between now and the league championships next Thursday,” he added. “They sure were right, as it was raining hard at match time.”
The Hornets represented the school well winning all eight flights. Tiffany Ash won at one singles 6-0, 6-0; Claire Cooper at two 6-1, 6-0; Gabby Meijer at three 6-1, 6-1; and Erica Krantz at four 6-2, 6-1. In doubles, Anya Nikolai and Mattie Nelson won at one 6-0, 6-0; Erin Donovan and Audrey Porter at two, 6-2, 6-2; Erin Graham and Aubree Barton at three 6-1, 6-0; and Cara Steinberg and Leah Vargovich at four 6-0, 6-0.
The win extended the Hornets dual match record to 9-0 and swept the CAAC White Division dual match record 4-0.
