Williamston vs. Flint Powers

The Hornets girls’ tennis team hosted the visiting Flint Powers team on Monday, May 11, 2009. It was senior day as three members of the varsity squad played their last home match of their tennis careers. The seniors were Erica Krantz, Erin Graham and Cara Steinberg. “We wanted their last match to be a good one,” said junior captain Mattie Nelson, “and we’re happy we were able to win it.”

The Hornets dispatched the visitors in a solid 7-1 style. The only loss came at one doubles where Annie McGoff was substituting for the ailing Anya Nikolai. “Annie played very well today,” said varsity coach Steve Stanley. “It is tough duty to come into the lineup from the junior varsity squad, but Annie did it with her normal great spirit and they gave the Powers girls a little run, losing 7-5, 6-3,” he concluded.

The match results were:
Singles:
Tiffany Ash (W) d Davis 6-3, 6-1; Claire Cooper (W) d. Mikhail 6-2, 6-3; Gabby Meijer (W) d. Manson 6-2, 6-1; Erica Krantz (W) d. McDonough 7-5, 6-2
Doubles:
Hagan/Witt (F) d. Annie McGoff/Mattie Nelson 7-5, 6-3; Erin Donovan/Audrey Porter (W) d. Scribienski/Pallegi 6-1, 6-1; Aubree Barton/Erin Graham (W) d. Juk/Adigan 6-2, 6-1; Cara Steinberg/Leah Vargovich (W) d. Pasupuletti/Christy 6-2, 6-1

The win extended the Hornets dual match record to 10-1.
